Melting glaciers and sea ice

This week, we’ll do an experiment about glaciers (really small glaciers….) to learn about the impact of global temperature rise not just on sea level, but the salinity of the water which may affect the food web, and the global currents.

Here are a few useful sites I’ve seen to visualize glacier/sea ice loss and climate change:

A film called “Chasing Ice” which will be showing at the Castro Theatre on March 5-6, follows photographer James Balog as he goes on a quest to document climate change in the Arctic.  Here’s a clip where he captures a HUGE GLACIER CALVING (a glacier falling apart.)
