Homework for the Week of Dec. 14- Carbon Calculator Blog assignment

1)  Click on this link for the ZeroFootprint calculator for Kids and answer the questions to calculate your carbon footprint.  You can also choose to use the Cool Climate Calculator with your family.  It requires much more information but it would be interesting.

2)  Once you’ve done calculated your footprint once, go back see what happens if you change some of your answers.

3)  Figure out a few ways to reduce your carbon footprint.

4) Leave a comment on the blog with the following information:

a)  Your Name.

b) Your total carbon footprint.  This number will be in the amount of carbon dioxide in tons per year.

c)  One pledge you can make to reduce your carbon footprint.  Explain how much carbon dioxide you would save with this pledge.  (Think about one thing you can change about your lifestyle that will reduce your footprint.)

But my dad switching to being a vegetarian isn’t exactly an accurate measure either. If you are eating tofu instead of meat, the soybeans that make up the tofu are no doubt from huge commodity crops that are drenched with pesticides (pesticides have a huge carbon footprint). I eat local grassfed beef, pastured pork and poultry. None of these animals are fed industrial corn from the midwest, which again, has a huge carbon footprint. My dad could go on for hours about this but I’m cutting him off.
